Requirements for avatar

Could someone tell me what the requirements are for an avatar here? I'm trying to upload a picture, but it keeps telling me that it's too big or not an avatar. I have looked around, but couldn't find any info on that.

Hi Deksels,

found the problem (as you can see).  8) 8)
There was a '#' character in the filename of the picture. Somehow that caused a problem. After removal it worked fine.
